Castles were very imporant to the Kings, Queens, and to the people that lived in the kingdom. Castles sometimes had a moat. A moat had either watre in it or it had a fence outside of the moat to block the intruders. The castles had many things living in the castle like animals for food, and people etc. Some kinds of the animals were pigs, rats etc. Castle had its own irrigation system, so it had the healthiest water in all of the kingdom. There were towers that were called the tower keep or the Shall keep. The keeps had 3 flights of rooms, and the top rooms were airy. In the winter they would put hangings to block the windows so the cold air doesn't get into the castle. Some doors in the castle were so big they couldn't be opened by the servants, or anybody. Even the there were many doors in the kingdom it actually cut down the number of drafts. The workers, like blacksmiths, ussed a smaller guarded door. The drawbridge is not actually a door it is just used to cross the moat. If an army was attacking they would lift up the drawbridge and make sure they couldn not enter the castle.
